Meet the De Ziremi sisters!

Bringing Chinese to life through tried-and-tested children’s books!

Hailing from Sabah, Malaysia - speaking English, Malay and Mandarin! - we discovered that languages gave us fluency, expression and flexibility in our school days and beyond. We migrated to the UK in 2003 to find ourselves in a whole new cultural environment. Language enabled us to adapt despite all the hardships we faced and gave us the ability to blend in and out of different communities and social circles.

Now with the next generation coming in, we ardently sought to equip these new little ones with the tools that aided us most. Up until this point, we allowed our children to watch Mandarin dubbed Peppa Pig 小猪佩奇 - but, now with hours of this under their belts, all they seem to eat, sleep and dream about is Peppa Pig! To supplement their screen-time diets, we craved Chinese books and ravaged the Internet to find some until we were hit with the realisation of how difficult it was to find them.

When children can grow up faster than we can catch up with our sleep debt, we found time and convenience to be essential.

That’s why we decided to set up De Ziremi 禧西利米! Partly for our children, but mainly to help you bring Chinese into your life through tried-and-tested children’s books! It is in our core beliefs that languages add dimension: bringing colour and mutuality to a world that is as diverse as the languages in it! So, we are committed to expanding the resources available in the UK that will help you equip your children for a world of opportunity and culture.

Each story as unique as the individual

What’s in a name? De Ziremi 禧西利米 is the culmination of the efforts of all four sisters so it’s only natural that it’s also an amalgamation of each of our names. We really wanted to emphasise how our personal experiences are the driving force behind our commitment and values that helped form this bookshop!
