Watercress
A young girl and her family spot some watercress growing in the side ditch and they all get out of the car to pick some! While her family are overjoyed to see all the watercress and happily gather the little plant, the young girl doesn’t seem to understand what the fuss is about. But even this seemingly meaningless food has a beautiful story to tell and the girl begins to appreciate their foraged food. Andrea Wang’s autobiographical story is perfectly matched with Jason Chin’s illustrations, inspired by Chinese painting techniques, in a moving tale about family and connecting with her Chinese heritage.
