Who’s Vicky Wu?

Vicky Wu DiDonato is an American author based in New York City. Born to immigrants from Taiwan, Vicky believed it was important that her biracial daughter could understand their grandparents’ native language and culture. Furthermore, she strongly believes that bilingualism is an excellent way for a child to see the world from different perspectives, like a useful tool to broaden their horizons. For that reason, she tried to build a library for her daughter containing children’s books written in English and Chinese, but also with accompanying Chinese phonetics, like Pinyin and Zhuyin, which are used to help non-native speakers read Chinese text.

Not finding any books that fit such specific criteria, she set out to write one herself. Vicky’s writing aims to capture universal stories about childhood and by extension, parenthood. Her first book, Patty Panda Gets a Potty, is the first installment of the adventures of Patty the Panda. It is about the potty training of Patty the Panda, the trials and tribulations, and the constant support of her loving family. It shows that with perseverance, Patty can finally become a big girl. The book is inspired by Vicky’s own experience potty training her daughter in the midst of the 2020 pandemic lockdown.
